Urge Connecticut to Revise Catering Policies at Eolia Mansion & Ellie Mitchell Pavilion

The Issue

The Eolia Mansion at Harkness Memorial State Park and the Ellie Mitchell Pavillion at Rocky Neck State Park in Connecticut both offer picturesque locations for weddings and events. However, the current policy by the State of Connecticut restricts couples to an exclusive or preferred list of catering services, limiting their ability to personalize their event experience and inflating costs for residents.

These public parks, maintained by taxpayer dollars, should be accessible to the community they serve and prioritize the interests of residents who wish to celebrate their special occasions at these beautiful venues. Allowing couples the freedom to select a licensed and insured catering service of their choice will enable them to support local businesses, potentially reduce costs, and ensure their event aligns with their personal tastes and cultural preferences.

Many couples who have used these parks in the past report total wedding costs exceeding $45,000 due to catering limitations, effectively placing the venue out of reach for most Connecticut families.

Modification of this policy to allow flexibility in catering choices for in-state residents will not compromise health or safety standards. Connecticut can institute guidelines ensuring that any external caterer meets rigorous health and safety qualifications, ensuring all events held at the park are both safe and enjoyable.

Let's move towards a more inclusive, resident-friendly policy that respects the wishes and circumstances of Connecticut's citizens. Sign this petition to urge the State of Connecticut and venue coordinators to reconsider and revise the catering policy at Eolia Mansion in Harkness Memorial State Park. Your support can help make events more personalized and affordable for local residents.

This effort is a collaboration between Brian Formanek, of Porchlight; An Event Co. and Debra White-Palmer, of DWP Events- experienced event planning professionals based in Connecticut.
