Urge Congress to Ban Platforms like OnlyFans for the Sake of Society's Mental Health
The Issue
I am a 33-year-old disabled individual who has always aspired to have a traditional family. However, platforms like OnlyFans are making it increasingly difficult not just for me, but also for millions of other men - disabled or not - to achieve this dream. It is true that these platforms provide an avenue for women to earn money and improve their situations, but at what cost?
Platforms such as OnlyFans are offensive and vulgar, contributing negatively towards our culture and society. They are easily accessible even by children which raises serious concerns about the kind of content they get exposed to at such tender ages. Moreover, these platforms are contributing significantly towards the mental health crisis amongst young adults, particularly men.
According to a study published in JAMA Psychiatry (2019), there is a strong correlation between exposure to explicit content online and increased rates of depression among young adults. This alarming trend needs immediate attention.
We need Congress's intervention in banning platforms like OnlyFans that commodify intimacy and contribute towards societal degradation. Let us protect our children from early exposure to explicit content and help alleviate the mental health crisis among young adults.
Please sign this petition urging Congress to take immediate action against such harmful online platforms.
