Urge Companies to Suspend Payments for St Louis tornado victims

Urge Companies to Suspend Payments for St Louis tornado victims
The Issue
On May 16th, 2025, the city of St. Louis faced an unprecedented challenge when an EF3 tornado devastated our community. The impact was severe—thousands of homes were destroyed, five lives were tragically lost, and many residents were left homeless, without power, and struggling financially. As someone who experienced this disaster firsthand, I am reaching out to highlight the urgent need for support from the companies upon which we heavily depend in our daily lives, such as utility and telecom service providers.
AT&T has already exhibited remarkable leadership by suspending payments for a substantial period following the storm. Their compassionate initiative has provided much-needed relief to countless affected individuals, offering a brief respite in a time overwhelmed by hardship and sorrow. This commendable action sets a precedent that other companies can and should follow.
We call upon additional utility companies, phone and internet providers, such as Verizon, T-Mobile, Spectrum & others, to join At&T in alleviating the financial burden we currently endure. By canceling current bills as well as suspending payments for affected customers. In doing so, this will create breathing room, that’s necessary to begin rebuilding our lives and returning to some semblance of normalcy.
Statistics show that financial recovery after such disasters, can take years and immediate relief in the form of suspended payments can significantly aid this process. For those still without power or means of communication, the costs of maintaining services they cannot use, is an added burden, that can be alleviated with corporate compassion.
Taking this action will not only aid those in immediate distress but will foster long-lasting goodwill within the community. Please add your signature today to encourage other companies to step up for St. Louis in our time of need. Together, we can facilitate a recovery that is compassionate, swift, and just.
