The Issue

Our neighborhood in Hoover, Alabama is a vibrant community, known for its welcoming atmosphere and well-maintained homes. However, for over 25 years, the abandoned house on our street has become a sore sight for the eyes, a safety hazard, and an unfortunate representation of what we stand for as a community.

The once-beautiful home at 2344 Mountain Oaks Ln Hoover AL 35226 has fallen into severe disrepair. It is overgrown with weeds, suffers from structural damages, and contributes to decreasing property values across the entire neighborhood. It’s not just a visual disturbance but also a potential threat. Empty and neglected houses are often havens for illegal activities and attract unwanted pests and vermin. This situation is simply unacceptable.

The legal property records show the home has been abandoned with no apparent effort made by the owner to maintain or sell it. Despite repeated pleas from our community to the city officials, no significant action has been taken to address this issue.

We are demanding that the city of Hoover honors its responsibility to uphold public safety and neighborhood integrity by condemning and removing this property. This action will not only enhance the aesthetic value of our community but also ensure the safety and well-being of all our residents.

While we understand the complexities involved in condemning a property, other cities have successfully managed similar issues by auctioning off neglected homes or converting the land into community spaces, parks, or urban gardens. We urge the city to consider these viable solutions.

Our neighborhood deserves better. We envision streets lined with cared-for homes, children playing safely, and neighbors gathering without the blight of abandonment overshadowing our joy. The removal of this unsightly and unsafe structure is necessary to restore the  pride we all have in our community.

Please add your name to this petition to voice our collective demand for action. We need your support to make our voices heard and to prompt much-needed change from our local government. Together, we can make our neighborhood a safer, more beautiful place for everyone to enjoy.
