Urge Cochrane, AB to Pause Residential Building Permits until Infrastructure is Upgraded

The Issue

As long-time residents of Cochrane, Alberta, we have seen our beloved town grow at an unprecedented rate. However, this growth has not been without its challenges. Our daily commutes that used to take 10 minutes now stretch over an hour due to the increased traffic congestion. The traffic is terrible. This is not just a personal inconvenience; it's a symptom of a larger problem - our town's infrastructure cannot keep up with the rapid expansion.

New home and multi-family building permits are being issued at a pace that far outstrips our capacity for sustainable development. Our water and sewer systems are nearing their limits, threatening both the quality of life for current residents and the viability of future growth.

After this last week with water restrictions we really do see how sensitive our town water and sewer systems are. Imagine 10000 or more in population growth on our current infrastructure.

We understand that growth can bring prosperity, but it must be managed responsibly. We urge the town authorities to pause issuing new residential building permits until infrastructure upgrades can be implemented. This includes improvements in road networks, water supply, sewage treatment facilities and other essential services.

By doing so, we can ensure that Cochrane remains a great place to live - both now and in the future. We ask fellow residents who share these concerns to join us in this petition urging responsible growth management in Cochrane, Alberta.
