Urge City of Ottawa Officials to Open HWY 417 Off-Ramp at Pinecrest before 2024

Urge City of Ottawa Officials to Open HWY 417 Off-Ramp at Pinecrest before 2024
The Issue
In November 2021 the city of Ottawa made the decision to close the west-bound HWY 417 off-ramp at Pinecrest for TWO FULL YEARS to accommodate LRT Phase 2 construction. We are now faced with the prospect of an additional six months with no access due to continued LRT project delays.
This is a community issue affecting thousands. According to the City of Ottawa current population estimates there are over 200,000 residents living in the wards affected by this closure: Barrhaven West (58,630), College (53,340), Knoxdale-Merivale (40,050), and Bay (50,620). These residents as well as workers and customers of businesses in these areas rely on efficient transportation infrastructure for their daily commute in the absence of a functioning LRT. The prolonged closure has resulted in increased traffic congestion and longer travel times for many.
We understand that construction projects can face unexpected delays; however, it is essential that city officials prioritize citizen needs during these periods. In this case, opening a temporary off-ramp would significantly alleviate transportation issues while construction continues.
We urge city officials to intervene and mandate the LRT transit committee along with Kiewit and East-West Connectors consortium to open a temporary off-ramp at HWY 417 and Pinecrest without further delay.
Please sign this petition if you believe in better traffic management during construction periods or if you are directly affected by this prolonged closure.
