Urge City of Waco to Establish a Public Dog Park

The Issue

On Sept 9th, 2024 due to the unexpected sale of property, HOT Dog Park had to close its gates to the public.

Hundreds of pet parents in Waco, Texas, have just lost the comfort and joy of a beautiful, 5 acre park where their dogs could run freely and interact with other dogs. HOT Dog park was widely utilized by our pet-loving community and its recent closure has left a void that is already keenly felt.

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) notes that dog parks lead to better socialized dogs and promote physical health in our four-legged cheerleaders. Not just that, the Human Animal Bond Research Institute also emphasizes that pets, particularly dogs, improve our happiness and well-being.

Waco is home to a substantial number of dog parents (Texas ranked 2nd nationally for dog ownership rates according to the American Pet Products Association (APPA)) who don’t have adequate space in their homes or neighborhoods, thereby making a public dog park an absolute necessity.

Moreover, creating a space for dogs has a direct correlation with the community's health and happiness. According to a study in the Journal of Physical Activity & Health, dog owners are more likely to reach the recommended physical activity levels than those without dogs.

By petitioning the City of Waco to establish a public dog park, we're safeguarding the health and happiness of our people and our pets. Join us in championing this cause. Please sign this petition to urge the Waco city officials to establish a public dog park.
