The Issue

Imagine the weekday hustle—a 25-minute drive to the  Library in the Forest just to access services most communities enjoy nearby. For everyone living in or near Liberty Park and Cahaba Heights, this is the current reality. Our community is isolated from essential resources like Passport services, afterschool programs, and story times for our children. This petition urges the City Council to rectify this oversight by including funding for a new library and community space in Liberty Park in the upcoming budget.

For families with young children, having a local library means access to early literacy programs, enriching story times, and educational events without the hassle of a long commute. Imagine a place where our elderly can gather for book clubs or technology classes, where our students can find a quiet space to study, and where community groups can host meetings and events. This space would not only enhance the educational infrastructure of Liberty Park but also strengthen our community bonds.

By allocating part of the proposed budget to building this library/community space, the City Council would be investing in the well-being and future of our citizens. Numerous studies have shown that access to library services can significantly boost literacy rates and educational outcomes for children, while also providing adults and seniors with opportunities for lifelong learning.

The benefits of such a development are clear and measurable: a rise in community engagement, improved academic performance among students, and increased property values—boosting the local economy and benefiting all residents.

We need the City Council to recognize and act on this opportunity. A library in Liberty Park would ensure that every citizen, from babies to seniors, has convenient access to essential services and safe, welcoming spaces for learning and growing.

Join us in urging the City Council to include funding for a library/community space in Liberty Park in their proposed budget. Together, we can make this vision a reality. Please sign this petition to show your support and commitment to building a brighter future for our community. We are not asking for financial support at this time, JUST SIGNATURES to show support! Thank you!
