Urge CCHS to Implement Sustainable Building Practices

Urge CCHS to Implement Sustainable Building Practices
The Issue
As members of Eco-Action, we are deeply concerned about the future of our planet and the education of our youth. The Cherry Creek School District's decision to construct a new building for Cherry Creek High School without incorporating sustainable building practices is a missed opportunity both environmentally and educationally. We urge the district to reconsider their current plans and to implement sustainable building practices in this new building.
Cherry Creek High School is known for fostering innovation and preparing students for real-world careers. The Cherry Creek Innovation Campus (CCIC) provides a unique platform to educate students about sustainable technologies and industries. By integrating sustainable practices into the building, the district not only contributes to a cleaner environment but also aligns with its mission to prepare students for jobs in the growing green energy sector.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, solar power has grown at an annual rate of 33% in recent years, which underscores the demand for skilled workers in this field. Implementing solar technology at Cherry Creek High School would serve as a living lab, offering students hands-on experience with renewable energy systems. This experience would be invaluable as they enter the workforce, giving them a competitive edge in a rapidly changing job market.
Furthermore, the environmental benefits are significant. The average U.S. school saves over $20,000 annually by switching to solar power, reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability. With this project, Cherry Creek School District has the chance to lead by example, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable practices and the health of our community and planet.
The lack of environmental awareness and sustainable practices contradicts the values we champion at Eco-Action. Investing in a future-proof building means aligning our infrastructure with the pressing need for environmental stewardship. Our district has the potential to teach students not only through traditional academics but by setting precedence with responsible, forward-thinking practices.
Join us in urging the Cherry Creek School District to reconsider their plans and take the necessary steps toward sustainability by implementing environmental and sustainable practices into the new building. Sign the petition to ensure we invest our resources wisely for the benefit of current and future generations. Together, we can make a difference.
