The heart and soul of our nation, our hardworking farmers, are suffering. I am personally affected by the crippling tariffs China has imposed on canola, our golden crop. Agriculture is not just an industry -- it's the backbone of our communities, livelihoods, and the economy.

In a recent report published by the Canola Council of Canada, it is stated that the canola industry contributes $26.7 billion to the Canadian economy annually ("Canola's Contributions", Canola Council of Canada, 2020). Over hundreds of thousands of jobs depend on this industry, and these are now under threats due to the existing tariffs.

Our request is directed towards Prime Minister, Mark Carney. Before his appointment, Carney served as Governor of Bank of Canada, and he is well-aware of the significant role canola plays in our economy. We, therefore, urge him to use his diplomatic ties and influence China to reconsider their canola tariffs.
