The Issue
As employees of Booker Retail Partners (GB) in Hemel Hempstead, UK, we have found ourselves in one of the most financially challenging times this country has ever seen. Despite our pleas and requests for recognition, we've been left to fend for ourselves with support from our workplace union we submitted a pay claim to the company in September 2023, which we believe is fair and reasonable. Yet, despite our efforts, there has been no acknowledgement or action taken by the company.The transport industry can be one of the most difficult and dangerous careers with next to nothing in the way of recognition,once again the workers are left battling with the ills of the country’s road networks and in some cases risking life or limb to get their customers delivered to! Isn’t it time the tables were turned and employers paid them their worth?We go the extra mile why can’t they?We would really appreciate it if you don’t just close this tab after reading it! The cost of living continues to rise while wages remain stagnant. According to data from Office for National Statistics (ONS), inflation rate in UK reached 4% as of August 2023 while average weekly earnings only grew by 1%. This disparity between income growth and cost of living increase puts us under significant financial strain.
We urge Booker Retail Partners (GB) not just as employees but as human beings who contribute significantly to your success - acknowledge that the Union members accept the pay claim submitted in September 2023. We stand by this claim because it's fair and reasonable.
It's time that you act upon this request without further delay. Show us that you respect your workforce by acknowledging our needs during these challenging times.
