Urge Blantyre Water Board to Retain Prepaid Water Service

The Issue

As a concerned resident of Blantyre, I am raising this issue that affects all of us. The Blantyre Water Board's (BWB) plan to replace prepaid water meters with postpaid ones is a decision that could have severe implications for our community.

Prepaid water meters have been instrumental in providing budgeting control and financial management for many residents, particularly those from low-income families. These meters allow consumers to pay for exactly what they use, eliminating the risk of unexpected bills and promoting efficient water usage.

The proposed switch to postpaid systems will force a shift from this pay-as-you-go model to an estimated billing system. This change not only threatens our ability to manage our finances effectively but also increases the risk of overcharging and disputes over consumption estimates.

We understand the need for BWB to explore different revenue models, but it should not be at the expense of consumer rights and welfare. We urge BWB to reconsider their decision and seek alternative solutions that do not compromise on affordability or transparency.

Please join me in urging the Blantyre Water Board not just listen, but act on our concerns. Sign this petition today!
