Urge Blacktown City Council to Implement a Soft Plastics Recycling Program

Urge Blacktown City Council to Implement a Soft Plastics Recycling Program
The Issue
Soft plastic waste has been a personal concern for me, adversely affecting our environment on a significant scale. Lack of proper disposal methods for soft plastics is a growing issue in our community. It's time to take action.
Material like plastic bags, wrappers, and packaging are a significant portion of daily trash. Dishearteningly, these items often end up in landfills or the natural environment, where they can persist for hundreds of years, causing harm to wildlife and ecosystems.
We need Blacktown City Council to introduce a soft plastics recycling program, either through pick-up with normal waste collection services or a free drop-off point. The introduction of such a program is not unprecedented. According to the Australian Packaging Covenant, 34% of Australia’s local government areas offer soft plastic recycling at drop-off facilities (source: APCO 2019).
By implementing these services, the council could greatly reduce the volume of plastics going to landfill, take a massive stride towards fulfilling Australia’s 2025 National Packaging Targets, and potentially create more sustainable jobs in the recycling industry.
I ask Blacktown City Council to make a real change for our community and environment. Please consider the implementation of a soft plastic recycling program. Join us in supporting this cause - your voice matters. Sign this petition and help us promote a cleaner, greener future.
