I constantly think about biking to school or going out with my friends, biking around Belmont. It feels good to imagine helping the Earth and creating less greenhouse gases. Although right now, biking in Belmont isn't easy or safe.

Belmont, California, is a great place with wonderful weather. People here would love to be green and use transportation that does not hurt the environment. In fact, "switching from a car to a bike for short trips can reduce an individual's carbon footprint by an average of 67%" (European Cyclists' Federation). But we currently do not have enough good bike paths or other options to stay safe while biking. This stops many of us from choosing bikes over cars.

If Belmont were to make a plan to build safe, easy-to-use bike paths. This would make biking a real option for everyone who lives here, helping our community have less traffic and protecting the environment.

We ask the Belmont City Council to make a long-term plan for biking in Belmont. This means building bike lanes that are expansive and safe, implementing stations to lock up bikes safely, and making sure bike riders are safe at crosswalks and stoplights. We need real action to make biking not just safe, but something that everyone in Belmont, young and old, wants to do.
