PETITION TO PROTECT ESSENTIAL AUSTRALIA POST SERVICES IN ROXBY DOWNS

To whom it may concern,

We, the undersigned members of the Roxby Downs community, wish to formally express our deep concern regarding the future of the Australia Post Office in Roxby Downs, with the current licence set to expire on 30 June 2026.

While we acknowledge that efforts may already be underway to address this situation, we believe it is essential that our community’s voice is clearly heard:

We strongly support and require the continuation of full Australia Post services within Roxby Downs.

As a remote outback community, we rely heavily on our local Post Office for far more than just mail and parcels. These services are essential to daily life and include:

Banking services

Passport applications

Licensing and identification services

ID photographs

Bill payments and money orders

Access to essential government and communication services

The potential alternative of accessing services in Andamooka is not a viable solution. This distance exceeds the 7.5 km accessibility guideline, creating unnecessary hardship for residents—particularly for elderly individuals, families, and those with limited transport options.

Losing our local Post Office would significantly impact our community’s ability to function effectively and safely.

We therefore call on Australia Post, government representatives, and relevant authorities to:

Ensure the continuation of Australia Post services within Roxby Downs beyond June 2026

Actively secure a new licensee or alternative service arrangement within the town

Provide transparency and timely communication with the community regarding plans

Consider interim solutions if needed to avoid any disruption to essential services

Roxby Downs is a vital regional community, and access to these services is not a luxury—it is a necessity.

We stand united in protecting our Post Office and the essential services it provides.

Signed,

The Residents and Community of Roxby Downs
