The Issue

Raising kids in Minnesota, I always dreamt of seeing my children participate in sports, engage in music, and join various educational programs that challenge their minds and spirits. These activities provide more than just a way for children to occupy their time; they are integral to their development, teaching teamwork, discipline, and creativity. However, the rising costs of these programs are putting them out of reach for many working families like mine.

Recently, Attorney General Keith Ellison took action against a nonprofit organization that was helping Minnesota families access opportunities to work at stadiums, a means to earn additional income to support their children's participation in these enriching activities. While ensuring nonprofits operate lawfully is crucial, this action highlights a more significant concern: the growing economic gap preventing working families from affording extracurricular activities for their children.

Families in Minnesota are not seeking tax dodges; we are looking for honest avenues to earn supplementary income to invest in our children's futures. Working hard at concession stands was one such avenue, not taking away opportunities but enhancing our capacity to contribute to the local community and economy while supporting our children's interests.

We request Attorney General Ellison's office to revisit or reconsider the implications of their enforcement actions on in-need families. We urge the office to balance the good work nonprofits do in helping families better themselves, with the need to ensure legal and ethical operations.

Join us in calling for change to support Minnesota families in ensuring that no child is left behind due to financial constraints.

Sign the petition to urge Attorney General Keith Ellison and our state leaders to prioritize solutions that empower Minnesota families, enabling children to access the invaluable opportunities they deserve.
