Urge Apple to Allow Alternative App Stores, Browser Engines, and Payment Services Globally

Urge Apple to Allow Alternative App Stores, Browser Engines, and Payment Services Globally
The Issue
Apple's monopoly on its App Store, web browser engines, and payment services is limiting consumer choice and stifling competition. In the European Union (EU), steps have been taken to address this issue with the Digital Markets Act that aims to prevent large tech companies from monopolizing their platforms. However, in the United States and other countries outside of the EU, no such measures are in place.
Apple's policies restrict developers from distributing their apps through alternative app stores or using different payment services for in-app purchases. This not only affects developers but also consumers who are left with fewer choices and higher prices due to lack of competition.
Furthermore, Apple's control over web browser engines means all browsers on iOS must use Apple’s own WebKit engine. This prevents other potentially superior or innovative browser engines from providing a better user experience.
We believe that opening up these platforms will foster innovation, provide more options for consumers and developers alike while promoting fair competition within the tech industry.
We urge you to join us in calling upon Apple Inc., one of the world’s largest technology companies by revenue (source: Forbes 2021), to allow alternative app stores, web browser engines, and payment services not just within EU borders but globally as well. Sign this petition now!
