The Issue

In the broad spectrum of digital communication, emojis play an essential part in expressing our emotions, interests, and personal identities. Yet, as a passionate music enthusiast, I find myself facing a frustrating limitation: the current selection of musical instrument and clothing emojis offered by technology giants like Apple and Samsung. Currently, we are confined to a handful of musical instrument emojis, which include a saxophone, trumpet, drum, piano keys, microphone, violin, electric guitar, banjo, indigenous flute, harp, maracas, timpani, and accordion. While these are beloved instruments, they hardly encompass the rich variety of musical expressions available globally.

In an era that celebrates cultural diversity and personal expression, why aren't our emojis reflecting this same inclusivity? Music and fashion are universal languages that transcend cultures and nations, and the limited selection of related emojis doesn't do justice to this universal significance.

Consider the countless other instruments played and cherished worldwide: the djembe, sitar, bagpipes, or even lesser-known instruments like the kora or erhu. These instruments are integral to various cultural identities and deserve representation in our digital dialogues. Similarly, expanding clothing emojis to include more diverse and culturally meaningful attire could dramatically enhance our ability to share and celebrate our backgrounds, traditions, and personal styles.

Apple and Samsung, as leaders in technological innovation, are in a prime position to pioneer this change. By broadening the range of emojis to include a more diverse array of instruments and clothing, they can better represent their users' passions and identities worldwide. This change is not only a step towards inclusivity but also an opportunity to promote global understanding and appreciation of artistic and cultural variety.

Join me in calling on Apple and Samsung to enrich our digital communication tools with additional clothing and musical instrument emojis. By signing this petition, you can help to ensure that our emoji lexicon is as diverse and colorful as the world we share. Let's make digital communication more inclusive and expressive for everyone.
