I recently stayed at Agriturismo Vultaggio in Misiliscemi, Trapini area, Sissily. During our stay we were told there’s some farm animals on site. When we went for a walk we found the hutches next to the main car park, situation next to a shooting range.

 

The birds were in bare, small enclosures with dirty water, some with no visible access to food and nothing in their inclosure for them to exhibit natural behaviours or have any stimulation. One of the geese had a visible injury too and was pacing around its pen constantly with an empty water feature. There were also trapped wild birds in the chickens enclosure and it was left like this for the week. 

 

The worst part of this was the enclosure with old, rusty, small cages lined up and rabbits in each of them with nothing in their cages except a bowl of dirty water (if it had any water in at all). 

 

There was also goats and sheep in a caged enclosure far too small at the top. Upon seeing this I reached out to animal rights organisations in sissily and animal volunteers locally. They advised me to record what I have seen and report this to the local authority. One of the animal volunteers called the owner and said they must provide food and water or they will be arrested. He said the owner had said they didn’t have any because he was busy but he’ll fix it straight away. This was at the start of the week, I checked every day on my stay and documented it with pictures, the water stayed dirty every day and the animals continued to be in the same condition. 

 

I asked about the animal tour which is advertised on the website and I was told this is only for school children not guests. They also said the animals food/water is changed 3x daily. This did not happen in the week as I made sure to record the conditions daily. I could see for myself that no explanation could be given for how these animals were treated and it’s clearly something that has been going on a long time. They were made aware that the animals must have clean drinking water and access to food and still failed to to do it. 

 

I can’t stop thinking about those poor, terrified rabbits, sat in small cages with no clean water and food. The gunshots could be heard from miles away so I can’t imagine how they feel right next to it, not to mention the constant fireworks. As long as they are on the menu they will justify having them treated like this, for the sake of two dishes for guests to choose from.

Please sign this petition to bring awareness to the animals welfare here so that the local authority will take the reports seriously and the owner will change the conditions for the animals, or better yet keep them off the menu. 

 

No animal should live in a rusty, small cage with no access to water or food in extreme heat just waiting to be killed.
