remove the shirts produced glamorizing mental illness and eating disorders

The Issue

"The fact that Urban Outfitters is selling a shirt depicting an illness is truly disgusting. Depression is a disease that over 121 million people worldwide have. A disease should not be glamorized on a graphic t-shirt sold through a worldwide store. Depression is a mental illness, NOT a fashion statement."

“As for the shirt on the right: It is simply appalling to find this hanging on the racks in stores all over the country. This promotes eating disordered behavior and unhealthy body image. Even the way it is advertised is promoting unhealthy standards of beauty. It suggests if you “eat less” you will be beautiful. This needs to stop. Struggling with an eating disorder myself, I find this incredibly triggering and it makes me mad. Why would someone ever promote this lifestyle. It is a living hell, yet the media tends to glorify the perks of restricting your food intake to younger and younger girls. And people wonder why eating disorders are on the rise. There is enough pressure as it is in a society which emphasises the need to be skinny. Beauty doesn’t have a weight limit. It’s time to stop pushing the boundaries just to make a profit, this disease is fatal and it needs to be taken seriously.

"Urban Outfitters has also released a shirt that reads, “Are You Sick Enough?” in London. This is out of hand."
