Stop Using Stingray Leather Products!
The issue
This petition is important because it helps organzations make sure stingrays are around for future generations. Upscale Menswear undermines this cause and shows Stingrays as mere fashion statements, rather than the innocent lives they truly are.
Our names are Rata Simperingham, Elisa Barbier and Lily Fitzgerald. We are a group of students dedicated to helping saving stingrays. We have been mortified upon hearing that there is a company that genetically modifies stingray skin to make more appealing patterns and colours for their shoe company, before slaughtering them for their leather. Yes this company, Rayfish Footwear is slaughtering stingrays to use their leather for shoes. This is inhumane and not to mention cruel. They refuse to genetically clone their leather although admit that it is both possible and feasible. Oh but wait, the company was just a hoax, a hoax that did in fact kill and turn stingrays into shoes to start off their prank. In our eyes this is not acceptable, it is never ok to kill an innocent life for no reason let alone a prank. But what maybe even worse is they may have broadened the market in stingray leather shoes and other products. The daily mail online says stingray skin - sometimes called shargreen or galuchat - is making a comeback in the windows of Britain's finest boutiques. Upscale Menswear is a perfect example of this as this company sells a variety of endangered animal products including Alligator, Crocodile, Ostrich, Kangaroo and of course stingray leathers and skins to be made into boots, belts, vests and hats.
What this company does disgusts us. It encourages people to lose their souls for their vanity and doesn’t even question the ethics of what their doing, the only thing they’re questioning is how good they’re gonna look in that new item. Every click to choose a new pair of boots, is another slaughtered stingray. Sparkly, patterned, slaughtered stingray.
