Uphold Women's Rights to Bodily Autonomy
The Issue
"MY BODY, MY CHOICE" has been my personal mantra and battle cry. It signifies my belief that every woman has the unfettered right to decide what happens to her own body. There are pressures in our society, and often, men say, "YOUR BODY, MY CHOICE," implying that they have the right to decide what women should do with their bodies. This notion is not only wrong, but it is also a violation of basic human rights.
Consider this, in the United States, despite Roe v. Wade protecting a woman's right to privacy concerning her body, many women still face significant barriers when it comes to having control over their bodies. In fact, according to the Guttmacher Institute, 58% of American women of reproductive age lived in a state considered either hostile or very hostile to abortion rights in 2020. This illustrates how far we are from achieving true bodily autonomy.
It is time for society to understand and respect a woman's right to bodily autonomy. No one else should have the authority to decide the fate of our bodies. It is our hope that this petition will shed light on the importance of recognizing and defending women's rights to their own bodies. We have the right to make decisions about our bodies, lives, and futures. We call on all policymakers, organizations, and individuals to join us in supporting bodily autonomy for all women. Please sign and champion this cause.
