The Issue

I'm a parent of a child with Autism who is enrolled in the VPK program at Narcoossee Elementary. My child heavily depends on the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) services that are integral to his development, education, and his ability to participate in the classroom. These services provide the critical support needed to bridge the educational barriers posed by developmental disabilities.

A matter of grave concern has come to my attention, namely, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title VI assistance action on the Osceola County School Board agenda. Any decision to compromise these crucial ESE services could be detrimental, leading to severe and lasting consequences for students like my son who rely on these services amidst an environment already fraught with challenges.

A study from the National Center for Education Statistics has shown that in 2018–19 academic year, about 7.1 million students received special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which not only makes the magnitude of this issue clear but also underscores the pressing need to sustain these critical services (source: National Center for Education Statistics).

Hence, it is imperative that the ADA Title VI is upheld firmly to ensure continued support to exceptional students who require specialized and tailored learning strategies. Therefore, I call upon every concerned citizen, every parent, teacher, and advocate, to raise their voices against any action undermining the ADA Title VI. We need to ensure our children and teachers alike continue to have the best possible support for their education and development. Please, sign this petition.
