Upgrade Warwick intersections with much needed traffic lights!
The issue
Over the years in Warwick, Queensland, the intersections of Alexandra Drive and Freestone Road, as well as Albion Street and Victoria Street, have been plagued by increasing traffic. This rise in vehicular flow, much like any other unsignalised intersection, heightens the risk of accidents and endangers the safety of our community. This has hit close to home as I’ve witnessed near-misses and the growing potential for serious incidents. Back in 2022, I initiated a petition to address this pressing issue but faced challenges in mobilizing sufficient support. Now, I am reaching out to the community again, urging us to make a tangible difference for our roads.
The intersections in question serve as vital conduits for local commuters, school children, and visitors to the region. Their hazardous conditions and potential blind spots necessitate immediate action. By installing traffic lights, we can significantly reduce the risk of collisions and enhance the overall safety of our roads. Traffic lights, along with other road improvements, can transform these intersections from danger zones into secure thoroughfares.
Beyond just traffic lights, I call on the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to invest in comprehensive upgrades for these intersections. Installing improved median strips, creating better-designed turning lanes, and implementing school zone signals near the School of Total Education will provide essential safety enhancements. Such measures are not merely improvements but vital steps towards safeguarding the well-being of all road users, especially school children.
Let's unite our voices to ensure our call does not go unheard this time. I firmly believe that with enough support, we can influence the authorities to prioritize these essential upgrades.
