As a dedicated member of the Marquette Boxing Club, I have had the privilege of watching our club grow in both size and enthusiasm. However, as our membership continues to expand, our current home—the Straz Boxing Gym—has struggled to keep pace with our needs.

Right now, the gym lacks the quality equipment necessary for a thriving boxing program. While we remain passionate and committed, we recognize that improvements to our facility would make a meaningful difference in our ability to train safely and effectively.

Boxing gyms are more than just a place to work out—they serve as spaces that foster discipline, resilience, and a deep sense of community. Well-equipped facilities play a crucial role in an athlete’s development, helping them reach their full potential and, in some cases, even compete at the highest levels (e.g., Kam Jones).

Unfortunately, without updates to the Straz Boxing Gym, our ability to grow and improve is limited. Proper training equipment is essential—not just for performance but also for safety. A revitalized space would provide athletes with the necessary resources to develop their skills while also encouraging new members to explore the sport in a supportive environment.

We also recognize that our concerns are shared by many beyond just our club. Other students and gym-goers have expressed similar frustrations about the lack of proper training equipment. While our campus recently opened a new gym, it does not include any boxing or combat training equipment. As a result, those interested in these forms of training still lack the necessary resources to pursue their goals.

This petition is a sincere request to those responsible for sports facilities to consider the impact that an upgraded Straz Boxing Gym would have—not just for us, but for the entire Marquette community. By investing in these improvements, we can create a space that supports the growth, health, and success of current and future athletes.
