Our school kitchen is trapped in the past, with much of its equipment outdated and inefficient to the point where it can affect the daily provision of healthy meals for our children if not updated. This is an issue that hits close to home for many parents, as we all want the assurance that the meals crafted for our children are prepared using tools that are both safe and effective. As of now, our hardworking kitchen staff have suffered the consequences, faced with double or even triple their workload due to these faulty appliances. 

Inadequate food service equipment could lead to food safety issues and affect the nutritional quality of meals served in our schools. The USDA recognizes the crucial role that up-to-date kitchen equipment plays in school nutrition programs. As per one of their reports, over 88% of schools in America needed at least one piece of kitchen equipment updated, and over half of the schools needed kitchen infrastructure changes. There is a nationwide need for this change, and our school should not lag behind.

Our students' nutrition should never be compromised due to outdated—or worse, unsanitary—kitchen appliances. Our children deserve better, our kitchen staff deserves better. It is with this that we urge the school board to prioritize the upgrade of our school kitchen equipment.
