I am a parent of two passionate young footballers who play for Arniston Diamonds in Gorebridge, UK. Unfortunately, our local pitches are often unplayable due to poor maintenance and lack of facilities. This has led to numerous game cancellations and very soon training sessions will also be affected.

Our children's love for the sport is being undermined by the inadequate conditions they are forced to play in. It's not just my daughters; many other children and local teams are suffering from this situation as well.

Football is the most popular team sport among children aged 5-16 years old. Yet despite its popularity, our local facilities do not reflect this enthusiasm or demand.

The negative impact on our community is significant as sports participation plays a crucial role in promoting physical health, mental well-being and social interaction among youngsters. It also fosters community spirit and brings people together.

We call on the relevant authorities - including Midlothian Council - to prioritise upgrading our local football facilities so that all games can go ahead as planned, regardless of weather conditions. We need playable pitches that can accommodate both games and training sessions throughout the year.
