We the undersigned residents and ratepayers of Greater Bendigo City Council formally request Council to upgrade the following roads in Goornong; Goornong-Barnadown Road, Goornong-Fosterville Road & Bagshot St. We wish for Goornong-Barnadown Road & Goornong-Fosterville Road to be widened and footpaths to be alongside; where practical. For Bagshot St, we wish for the road to be widened & bitumen to be laid down as this will stop dirt & dust being flicked up. A footpath would be great so residents don’t need to walk along the roads.

Driving on Goornong-Barnadown Road and Goornong-Fosterville Road can be a terrible experience for many locals, visitors & those passing through. There have been numerous instances where oncoming traffic has not slowed down & these narrow roads can force drivers onto the gravel too quickly; increasing the risks of accidents especially with more traffic as Bendigo & surroundings continue to grow. For example; the fire brigade is getting busier making it even harder for them to respond & having to drop the truck off the side of the road isn’t ideal.

Goornong is a thriving town within the Greater Bendigo City Council, so upgrading all our roads to be two lanes will reflect our community's continued growth. The roads in their current state, do not support the ever growing traffic conditions & even though a turning lane was put in for the pony club it is redundant when the rest of the road is still one lane. Expanding these roads would reduce the danger magnificently & enhance the safety and efficiency of travel for all road users.

Improving these roads is not merely a cosmetic change but a necessary change. By widening both the Goornong-Barnadown Road and Goornong-Fosterville Road, it will reduce traffic accidents and ensure a smoother, safer commute for all drivers.

We urge the Greater Bendigo City Council to take immediate action. Investing in road infrastructure will benefit our community substantially by keeping up with the demands of our growing population and ensuring the safety of all.
