Growing up in Charnwood, our local swimming pool in Loughborough has always held a special place in my heart. It is not just a venues for exercise and recreation, but vital community hubs where friendships flourish and memories are made. As the years have gone by, however, it has become increasingly apparent that these beloved facilities are in desperate need of refurbishment.

Currently, the swimming pool at Loughborough leisure centre was created in 1977 and is  marred by outdated infrastructure and inadequate maintenance. Visitors frequently encounter unhygienic changing areas and deteriorating showers. As a community, we are subjected to cramped spaces that no longer accommodate our growing population and heightened demand for clean, safe recreational facilities.

Charnwood Borough Council and Serco Leisure (MORE Leisure) have a unique opportunity to invest in our community's well-being by prioritising the revamp of these facilities. With proper funding and urgent attention to modernisation, we can ensure our pools not only meet but exceed acceptable standards of hygiene and usage. This overhaul can breathe new life into Charnwood’s public leisure activities, promoting health, happiness, and community spirit.

Our call for action is supported by local statistics showing that leisure swimming has a significant positive impact on both physical and mental health. According to Swim England, regular swimming can lower stress, reduce anxiety, and improve sleep patterns. Given these benefits, it is crucial that every Charnwood resident has access to clean, modern, and welcoming swimming environments.

Moreover, enhancing our swimming pools can align Charnwood with environmental and social development goals. By integrating sustainable practices into the refurbishment plan, such as improving water efficiency and energy usage, we could set an example of responsible and forward-thinking facility management.

We urge Charnwood Borough Council to work alongside Serco Leisure to secure the investments needed to transform our swimming center at Loughborough  into modernized, efficient, and pleasant spaces that meet today's standards. Let us make Charnwood a leader in community wellness and sustainability by addressing this pressing issue.
