My beloved dog, Tess, recently suffered a sprained ankle and acquired a skin infection while playing at the Oceanview Dog Park in Norfolk, Virginia. This unfortunate incident made me realize the urgent need for improvements to this park that is overutilized and undermaintained.

The current state of the park poses risks not only to our furry friends but also to their owners. The lack of proper equipment and materials has led to unsafe conditions, including hazardous mud holes that can cause injuries or infections. It is essential that we address these issues promptly to provide a safer environment for both dogs and owners.

To achieve this goal, I am starting this petition calling on the community, local authorities, businesses, and sponsors to come together in support of upgrading and enhancing the Oceanview Dog Park. By doing so, we can ensure that our four-legged companions have access to a modern park where they can enjoy themselves while promoting communication and socialization among dog owners.

The enhancements we propose will not only meet but exceed national standards for health, safety, sanitation, and exercise. By providing much-needed equipment such as agility courses, waste stations with biodegradable bags, much deserved benches and tables, a water fountain for dog and parents comfort during hot summer days… not to mention a splash pool - we will create an inviting space where everyone can enjoy quality time with their pets.

This project goes beyond just improving the physical aspects of the park; it aims at enriching our entire community. A well-maintained dog park acts as an attractive feature that adds value to surrounding neighborhoods while fostering engagement among residents. It becomes a hub where people from different backgrounds come together through their shared love for their pets.
