On the eve of her court date, an event which could well determine the direction of Layan Nasir's life, the question remains, "Why is Layan in prison?"
There are, of course, multiple answers. From the viewpoint of her zionist captors, she was part of a banned student group which encourages resistance to their 73 year long occupation of Palestine.
But what would Layan offer as an explanation? While we can't ask her right now, the Rev. Fadi Diab, the priest at St. Peter's Anglican/Episcopal Church in Birzeit, the parish that Layan and her parents attended before she was detained by the Israeli Occupation Forces, has offered us a perspective on what motivated Layan, and how that contributed to her current incarceration.
I encourage those of you who pray, regardless of which faith you practice, to offer a prayer for Layan and her fellow prisoners as they await trial. And please, share Father Fadi's story of Layan, together with our petition, with those you love, serve and challenge on social media.
