Although Layan Nasir was supposed to appear in court today, we received word that her case was postponed until October 5th.
At this time we don't know the reason for the delay. Based on the charges that were brought against Layan, of leading student nature walks, educating on Covid precautions, and encouraging resistance to the Occupation, it is hard to imagine the Israelis needing more time to gather evidence.
Of course, it is possible that like bureaucracies around the world, the Israeli court system is inefficient. And backed up by the latest wave of Covid in Israel, despite their efforts to inoculate everyone (except the Palestinians of the West Bank and Gaza).
In any case, Layan is spending another night in Damon prison. The first of 6 more weeks until her rescheduled court appearance.
How will we use the time? I hope you will use some of it to advocate for Layan's release. Please share this petition (again) with your family, friends and colleagues. The petition is being shared with President Biden, Vice President Harris, Secretary of State Blinken, Senate Majority Leader Schumer and House Speaker Pelosi. You might also copy and paste the petition, or send a link to your Senators, Representatives or other leaders in your government.
Let's keep pushing until Layan and her fellow student detainees are released.
