Update on the Lockland Avenue Homes
Friends, we have had a success! After Atrium Health informed the ANA in May that it intended to immediately demolish ten homes on Lockland Avenue, the ANA took a strong position opposing this. Many of you called and wrote to Atrium, sent in letters to the editor, and signed our on-line petition. Another group, Preservation Forsyth (PF), rallied people to speak out against the demolition plans, citing the historic significance of the houses.
Your voices were heard by Atrium, resulting in a late June meeting between ANA, PF and Atrium representatives. Following a productive discussion, Atrium’s representatives wrote to say Atrium “is not currently planning to proceed with the pending removal of the houses we own on Lockland, and our focus and efforts will be finding other ways to improve the safety and security in this area.”
The ANA appreciates Atrium’s revision of its early statement that it planned immediate demolition of the Lockland Avenue homes. We will continue to dialogue with Atrium as it explores how to have the properties renovated and made into affordable housing.
We need your continued vigilance and involvement. What can you do?
- Come to the tour of the Lockland houses, to see the exteriors and learn about their historic significance.
- Join or contribute to the Ardmore Neighborhood Association! Our non-profit was formed in 1976 to help preserve the residential nature of our neighborhood. Be a part of that.
- Follow the ANA on Facebook and become an active, in-person part of our community activities.
Thank you!
