Update the Wilbur Cross High School Athletic Complex

Update the Wilbur Cross High School Athletic Complex
The Issue
The Wilbur Cross Athletic Complex is in such a state of neglect it is no longer sanctioned for varsity competition.
Wilbur Cross High School is the largest comprehensive high school in New Haven, Connecticut. Its cross-town rival James Hillhouse's athletic complex Bowen Field's renovation was completed in 2016. Every Thanksgiving Day Elm CIty Bowl game has been played at Bowen since.
All of WIlbur Cross's varsity teams (football, soccer, track, lacrosse etc.) rely on Hillhouse's facility for varsity play. In addition to the inconvenience of never actually playing at home, numerous practices and games must be rescheduled or outright cancelled due to the current field conditions. The lack of usable facilities is hamstringing our youth. Our student athletes deserve better.
I challenge you to name another Connecticut public high school that does not have a runable track and an artificial turf field lined for multiple sports with working lights. I cannot. As a parent of student athletes and a youth coach I have been to many facilities across the state. The current state of our fields is shameful.
Wilbur Cross student athletes deserve a functional athletic complex with a reasonable and realistic timetable for completion. Although money has been earmarked for renovations, the planning meeting held by city engineers in June did not include an artificial turf field at the Mitchell Drive WCHS Athletic Complex.
Sign the petition today to do the right thing for our Governors. Send a strong message that our current student athletes deserve an artificial turf field lined for multiple sports, a runnable track and working lights before they graduate.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and support in this matter.
