I should like the Government to update the title of The Most Excellent Order Of The British Empire to recognise the fact that the empire has gone. All titles are prefaced with this and to start with I should like to see it changed to reflect the reality of the Commonwealth of Nations, to give it its full title.

My father came from the former colony of Jamaica and fought for the UK in WW1. However, the truth is my ancestors were slaves under the British Empire, that is how they got to Jamaica. Although I firmly believe a nation should honour its brightest and best, at present, for a person of colour offered an honour including 'empire' in its title, there is always cause for reflection. Let us celebrate and name the Commonwealth placing our honours firmly within a modern, inclusive society.
