Update the disability process

Update the disability process
The Issue
People with disabilities trying to access disability programs through the federal government are forced to work through an unfair/outdated system from the 1940s. Just think, many diseases today didnt even have names in 1940. They are basing decisions using outdated models of medicine and job opportunities.
Due to these unfair and often arbitrary procesess, disabled people are humiliated, forced to hire lawyers if they can afford it and often wait years before they get approved (if they ever do.) Then, afraid of losing the help they just achieved, they are terrified to find any work even part time, go on trips with families or even get married lest they are penialized and forced to start again leaving the disabled in abject poverty.
The solution? Overhaul this unjust system. Update it to 2024: today's medical knowledge and today's job prospects. Focus on a tiered system from 100% disabled to 25% disabled where doctors get more say in determining levels of care, how one is labeled disabled based on tiers, and more variety of programs are offered to accomodate the reality that not all disabled people are alike. Not only will this allow more people to get approved and faster, it will also allow more people acess to work programs to help them find suitable jobs for their level of disability, part time work without punishment, better living wages, more independence and ability to work, ability to get married without penalty and be part of the community at large. Someone shouldnt end up homeless, in abject poverty, or single simply due to disability.
Only by garnering the will of all Americans can those with disabilities finally be treated free from discrimination, poverty and distress through something they cannot control. Please sign this petition, contact your representatives and let them know it's time to fix our broken disability system.
