As an owner and protector of three rescued chinchillas, witnessing the distress of small animals in cruel conditions, with no medical aid and insufficient nourishment, is nothing short of heart-wrenching. More often than not, these small creatures are overlooked and do not receive due respect and care. I have observed a backyard breeder exploiting these tiny, defenceless creatures, condemning them to a life devoid of basic rights and comforts.

One particular backyard breeder, whose deplorable conditions are evident from photographs available from reviews online, seems to be oblivious to their cruelties. The photos demonstrate clearly that these poor animals are kept in unsanitary, dangerous conditions — a blatant violation of animal welfare norms. Their business operations demonstrate complete disregard for the animals' wellbeing, an alarming revelation we must collectively address.

Due to the lack of specific statistics on backyard breeders, and largely unregulated nature of these operations, the numbers of animals suffering remain elusive. However, it's estimated that breeders who prioritize profit over animal welfare, often deemed 'unethical', are responsible for the neglect and abuse of countless animals in their 'care'. This information is widespread, but shockingly overlooked (ASPCA).

It is time we, as a community, united to protect these small animals that bring such joy and companionship to our lives. There should be no place for cruelty in the pet industry. Accessories and decorations for our homes should never come at the cost of a creature's suffering. We must challenge the law, local authorities and the offending parties to rectify this gross negligence immediately.

The business is called Age of Aquariums Super Pet Store, it’s located at Cookeville, TN. Locals reportedly submitted complaints to the local animal protection services and police department, but the business owner just changed locations and continued their unethical practices. 

This personal crusade for change aspires to rehome these small animals with loving families and individuals who understand the responsibility and care these small animals require.
