UPDATE ON THE COASTAL EROSION AT LANGSTONE

UPDATE ON THE COASTAL EROSION AT LANGSTONE
The Issue
Part of the seawalls between Wade Lane and Langstone Mill, near Havant, collapsed onto the shore in March 2022. This petition was started in August that year to raise awareness of the need to save the footpath and the Millpond. The original aim of the petition was that all the seawalls should be repaired. Many agencies and individuals have worked hard towards finding a solution.
Although a complete re-build of the old Victorian walls has not been feasible, a compromise has been settled.
This compromise, now agreed by all agencies, will see the repair and maintenance of most of the seawalls for at least the next 25 years, thereby saving the Millpond for the next generation.
Where the walls have failed a new footbridge will be erected to retain the footpath in its current coastal position.
So, with this compromise position the future of the Millpond and a coastal footpath have been secured in the medium term.
Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition as these 5,000 signatures have shown the decision-makers the power of democracy! I will continue to share updates on here regarding progress, time scales etc.
Thank you … Margaret Tait
