On May 2, 2024, Toll Brothers had their community meeting regarding "Deal Lake". Over 150 people attended the community meeting, with the high majority being opposed to the proposed development. There were many concerns about the "community wastewater treatment plant with septic fields". The general feedback from the community was for Toll Brothers to change their plans to R40 one acre lots with individual conventional septic systems in lieu of their proposed RCD plan with the treatment plant.
Many Weddington residents had their hands in the air to ask more questions when Toll Brothers decided to cut the meeting short.
Since that time, Weddington residents have written to the town council and have spoken at public meetings requesting Toll Brother have an additional community meeting as they did not provide enough time to answer Weddington residents' questions on their proposed development.
We want to extend a huge thank you to Weddington residents who came out to attend the community meeting and who actively engaged with the developers asking questions and holding up signs.
We also appreciate your presence on social media, helping us get the word out, sharing our petition, engaging in our Facebook groups and Nextdoor. It takes all of us working together when the impacts could be so far reaching impacting our quality of life.
To date, we have not heard when or if Toll Brothers will be moving forward to present their plans for "Deal Lake" to Weddington's planning board.
When it's time for Toll Brothers to present "Deal Lake" in front of the planning board and the town council, we will ask Weddington residents to attend both of these meetings. It will be very important that our appointed and elected officials see our faces and hear our voices.
We remain steadfast in our opposition against Toll Brothers "Deal Lake" including a "community wastewater treatment plant/septic field", as the treatment plant would be located within 200 feet of Aero Plantation's lake and an active and federally protected bald eagles nest.
The 10 acres sited for the treatment plant is an environmentally sensitive area, also home to nesting herons, a federally protected tri-color bat species and osprey.
If approved it would set a precedent for other community wastewater treatment plant developments on the remaining unsewered land around Weddington.
NO DEAL!
