#UPNotReady: Move The Sem!

The Issue

The academic year 2021-2022 will soon begin on September 17 but UP students, faculty, and staff are already facing numerous challenges that hinder their preparedness for the upcoming semester. The registration process has become more difficult which has forced students to compete for slots with no guarantee of getting the slots and units they need.

The lack of any guidance, like the academic roadmap, further compounds the confusion and struggles of students and faculty. To top it all off, the government has proposed a P1.3 billion budget cut in the UP System for 2022 where these budget cuts definitely caused major repercussions to the whole UP System, including the aforementioned problems we are currently facing.

These hindrances in opening an effective academic year clearly call for a consideration in moving the upcoming semester. The Rise for Education Alliance - UP Diliman, together with various formations and Iskolars ng Bayan, strongly demands:

  1. Release the 2020-2021 Remote Learning Assessment Results
  2. Strengthen and Widen Financial and Gadget Support for Students, Faculty, & Staff
  3. Ensure Consultative, Proactive, Pro-UP Academic Roadmap of AY 2021-2022
  4. Recalibrate the Academic Calendar

Most importantly, move the start of the semester because UP is not ready.
