The issue

Good afternoon to whom this concerns.

We have created this petition, in the hope that changes can be made to the driving conditions and safety on Just Street in Goonellabah Lismore.

Just street was a quiet, safe street on Tucki Tucki creek reserve, then the Dudley street end of Just street opened to surrounding areas. The street is now being used (by a negligent few) as a speedy rat run to work, schools or sporting grounds. It is also being used as a fun race track to speed through with complete disregard of safety.

Last year, we had one of our resident wallabies killed by a speeding driver. We are concerned for local wildlife like wallabies and endangered koalas (LLC Annual Report/ Slow Down for Koalas, Lismore Local Strategic Planning Strategy, Comprehensive Koala Plan of South East Lismore) who call this part of Lismore home.

Managing the health and habitat of our koala population in south-east Lismore – Lismore City Council (nsw.gov.au).

Lismore City Council identifies Just Street on the Tucki Tucki Creek reserve as a High Conservation Area.

We currently have no speed signs, no 25km slow down for the only speed threshold (which is used as a launchpad) and no signs to raise awareness of our endangered koalas and local wildlife that rely on Tucki Tucki Creek for their survival. We also understand, that if we (the Just Street residents) reverse out from our driveways and are hit by a passing car, the resident reversing is most likely at fault.

This part of the Lismore is absolutely stunning and is deserving of a slower, more considerate and respectful driving environment for the safety of all residents.. big or small.

Any help in creating a safer environment for our families would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

The Just Street Residents.
