Unsafe Road in La Porte Took My Son’s Life – Don’t Let It Happen Again

Unsafe Road in La Porte Took My Son’s Life – Don’t Let It Happen Again
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents and concerned individuals, respectfully request immediate safety improvements at a dangerous dead-end located at the end of 10270 N H Street, La Porte, TX 77571.
This road has a known history of accidents and presents extreme hazards, particularly for drivers unfamiliar with the area or driving at night. Most tragically, on July 13, 2025, my son lost his life in a fatal crash after missing the barely-visible barricade due to poor visibility and a misleading road layout.
The problems are urgent and dangerous:
Inadequate signage: Only one “Dead End” sign exists, and it is placed nearly half a mile before the actual road closure. There are no flashing lights or proper warnings near the barricade itself.
Severe overgrowth and lack of maintenance: At the time of the accident, grass and weeds were so overgrown that deputies had to deploy drones to detect body heat because it was impossible to visually search the area by eye.
Unreliable barricade: The barricade is made of wooden boards with chevron signs stickers that are already peeling off just two months after being replaced. The structure does nothing to physically stop a vehicle.
Misleading road layout: When driving down N H Street, it appears as if the street continues into an intersection but it doesn’t. The road is abruptly cut off by a bayou/ditch, making it incredibly easy to misjudge and go over the edge, especially at night.
History of repeated accidents: According to neighbors, many vehicles have crashed at this exact spot. One recent incident involved a young woman whose car was left see-sawing on the edge. This is not an isolated case.
We demand the following action:
- Install proper, visible warning signs closer to the actual dead-end.
Add flashing lights or solar-powered reflective signals at the approach to the barricade. - Replace the current barricade with a physical barrier capable of stopping or redirecting a vehicle.
- Maintain the surrounding vegetation regularly to prevent further loss of visibility.
- Review the area’s traffic safety history, accident records, and street layout for needed redesign or safety enforcement.
This location is a serious public safety hazard that has already taken a life. These changes are simple, reasonable, and necessary. We are asking the following parties to immediately assess and address the danger:
- City of La Porte Public Works Department
- Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner
- Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)
- Mayor and City Council of La Porte
No family should have to experience what we’ve gone through. Please take action before another life is lost.
