Unmask Urban Outfitters: A Call To End Fast Fashion
Urban Outfitters has a history of engaging in fast fashion manufacturing practices that have detrimental impacts on the environment and suppress the basic rights of foreign factory workers. The UO supply chain is not certified by labor standards necessary to the protection of workers’ health and safety, living wages or labor rights. This company does not publish information regarding its suppliers, actions against textile waste, elimination of hazardous chemicals, water reduction initiatives or even issues of forced labor, gender equality and freedom of association. Because of the lack of disclosure, this company received a score of 11-20% in the fashion transparency index, and continues to engage in fast fashion practices behind closed doors. The University of Miami’s Student Government Environment and Conservation Organization (ECO) Agency and petitioners implore Urban Outfitters to change their unethical and unsustainable practices for the betterment of the environment and mankind alike.
