Close UNLV campus amid COVID-19 pandemic
The Issue
As the World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared the Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, as pandemic, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is at a high risk. For the safety of our faculty, who have a higher chance at suffering from COVID-19, UNLV should begin moving all the classes they can online. Us students may be carriers of the disease and can easily spread it to faculty. Because we are in Las Vegas, the whole city is in high risk due to tourism. In the past week, we’ve had 5 confirmed cases in Clark County, and 21 positive cases on the Grand Princess Cruise, where 49 people on board are coming back to the state of Nevada. The high contagion rate and the fact that UNLV is considered commuter school should be worrying everyone because commuters have a higher rate of increased contacts with the outside world.
