Matoaca High School has implemented a harmful policy this school year that locks all of the bathrooms in the school both during class transitions and for the first and last ten minutes of each class period. While the intention behind this policy is good [to prevent misuse (vaping, smoking, etc.)], it has created a lot of problems.

Students are very often unable to go to the restroom for an unreasonably long time, leading to extreme discomfort and frustration. Additionally, the requirement to use the EHallPass system significantly limits the number of students allowed to go at once and creates huge delays, especially at the beginning of class periods after the first ten minutes, and at the end of the day when students who ride the bus are trying to go before their sometimes long bus rides home.

I have talked with some of my fellow classmates, and we all believe that it is essential to find a solution that maintains safety while also ensuring that all students have proper access to restrooms. Signing this petition will help us advocate for a more reasonable approach that considers the needs of all students.
