Unjust Toll Charges on Creekland Village Residents

Unjust Toll Charges on Creekland Village Residents
The Issue
Creekland residents have submitted a placement request on the agenda for the next Bridgeland Council meeting to address the concern of our toll charges on Jack Road and lack of thoroughfare roads to enter the neighborhood.
It's going to take a "Village" to potentially get some motion and resolve this burden for us so I'm asking for everyone's help.
Below are our concerns and request:
Concerns:
• TxDot & HCTRA: Residents have contacted these agencies for resolutions but the agencies have indicated that this matter falls outside their jurisdiction and advised us to work with the developer to address the issue of throughfare road development.
• Limited Access: The lack of alternative routes creates a significant inconvenience for residents.
• Financial Burden: Tolls have become a substantial financial burden, with some residents reporting costs exceeding $200 per month. The current toll rate of $0.54 per entry/exit is considered excessive and unethical.
• Unforeseen Expense: Tolls were not implemented until after homes began closing in January 2024, placing an unexpected financial strain on residents.
• HOA Fee Parity: Given the lack of alternative routes, a significant decrease in HOA fees is warranted until the development of throughfare streets is completed.
• Unlike other Bridgeland communities, Creekland residents lack access to essential amenities such as pools, parks, and gyms, while simultaneously incurring significant additional costs due to the mandated use of the tolled highway.
Request:
We urge the Bridgeland Council to:
• Work with the developer to expedite the development of through streets in Creekland.
• Consider a temporary reduction in HOA fees for Creekland residents until the lack of alternative routes is addressed.
• Present an alternative solution to reduce the financial burden of tolls on Creekland residents.
