Delhi University: Students should be able to continue online classes #DUOnline

The Issue

Owing to the reopening of Delhi University on such short notice, several students are very worried about returning to university. But our voices are drowning amidst all the excitement. There are several graduate and postgraduate students like me who’re in the final year of their studies at DU.

The order to resume offline classes came on 9th February. It “advises” students to plan to reach Delhi in such a manner, that they can complete the mandatory isolation period of 3 days before reporting for their college lectures starting 17th February. This gives outstation students just 3-4 days, during which they have to book their travel tickets and find accommodation within their budget, as most students had vacated their PGs and rented flats.

Students should have the option to continue the remainder of their studies, virtually. It's pointless for us to make these arrangements so urgently. And what if Covid cases again start rising from next month. Do we again pack our bags and go home?

Help us take this demand to the respected Vice-Chancellor, Proctor, and all the Heads of the teaching departments of the University. The administration should ensure an equitable learning environment for all students.

Responded
Dear Students and Citizens, We are listening and sensitized to the concerns raised by you on Change.org and other social media platforms following University of Delhi’s decision to reopen colleges. We have been noticing and getting calls from students about their struggles and acknowledging all the concerns raised by them. In these unprecedented times your petitions raise valid concerns and University of Delhi has been working proactively to make life easier for students. Following the February 4th, 2022 notification of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, the University of Delhi consulted all stakeholders and a consensus emerged that colleges should be reopened. As the matter is now sub-judice the University of Delhi cannot comment any further on it. Please keep yourself informed about our initiatives through our website du.ac.in, or on Twitter @UnivofDelhi and by addressing your issues to my verified decision maker account on Change.org India.
