Georgia Universities COVID-19 Reimbursement

Georgia Universities COVID-19 Reimbursement
The Issue
COVID-19 is an unfortunate virus that millions of Americans are facing in 2020. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advised on taking precautions and safety measures that will help hinder the spread of the virus. On March 12, 2020, Governor Brian Kemp announced that state agencies, school systems, and local communities could decide if closures were the right decision based on their judgment. Initially, the University System of Georgia (USG) announced a two-week suspension on instruction. However, on March 16, 2020, USG declared that "all 26 institutions will move to online instruction," banning people from staying on-campus.
Sadly, the majority of college students do not have the luxury to spend thousands of dollars (loans, grants, scholarships, out of pocket) on a university that they will not be able to experience for half a semester, especially on-campus residents who are forced to move out after spending over $1,000 for living costs. This petition reflects how the majority of students within the USG want reimbursement of at least half of their student billing. If reimbursement cannot be achieved for all, then we ask that half of the student billing be applied to the Summer or Fall 2020 semester for reoccurring students. For students graduating this spring, we request that they at least get their reimbursement.
