Private accommodation must be funded

The Issue

Students of the University of the Free State they are currently forced into accredited accommodation. We have three campuses in Freestate. Namely, QwaQwa campus, South Campus and Bloemfontein campus. I am not against accredited accommodation but I am against being forced to stay in it. Students should have their own rights of freedom of choice to stay where they want, accredited or not accredited. My reasons are, Firstly, students who qualify for NSFAS their households income is not more than R350 000 pr annum, in other households no source of income at all. Keeping in mind that other accredited accommodation requires a student to pay for themselves, while they wait on NSFAS to release the funds for accommodation, how will they be able to pay that amount of R3500 or R2500 per month. Secondly UFS not allowing private accommodation to be funded is not fair on the rental owners, who make a living through rentals. Small businesses must be supported also, black empowerment. It will be unfair for private accommodation owners to loose their source of income during this pandemic. Thirdly, no landlords should be forced to be accredited. Fourthly, not everyone is comfortable to share a flat or house with six people, more or less not everyone is comfortable. University of the Free State must also keep in mind that accredited accommodation are expensive, and some needs a student to pay a little more to top up their NSFAS accommodation funds. Furthermore, they must keep in mind that accredited accommodations are not enough for students as I have mentioned in Bloemfontein we have two campuses and QwaQwa one campus in a small town. Thing should remain the way they were, private accommodation or accredited accommodation must be funded.
