Bradon M Smith started this petition to University of Texas officials

Pets are companions. People have pets to fill a void of loneliness or are just in need of company. They are a natural stress reliever for humans. The University of Texas at Austin campus currently has a banishment of pets on its premises. No pets, besides registered support animals, are allowed in the buildings or dorms. It is a shame that animals that bring students and faculty so much joy in their lives cannot be a part of UT Austin. College is a very stressful time for many students, and the University should be lenient when it comes to ways to balancing that stress. Having a pet on campus is beneficial in many ways. Pets encourage owners to get outside and take meaningful breaks from their studies. They make their owner more playful, but also more social. Pets are great conversation starters for human interaction. A owner walking his dog down Speedway (the main pathway to all classrooms and buildings) can lead to conversation with other owners who are also enjoying an afternoon stroll down campus. Pets bring people together and as a result create valuable relationships. UT Austin needs to assign certain floors or dorms to house pets. Pets are a good to society and will be healthy for student life. Pets belong on campus. Help make this change happen and bring our community closer together than ever!
